Leads team(s) that installs, maintains, and performance monitors Database Management Systems including but not limited to Oracle, Sql Server, PostGres, DB2, AWS RDS, AWS Dynamo, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos in support of the financial services, investments, individual markets and/or corporate divisions. Liaises with IT Development, IT Architecture, IT Operations and business leadership to provide efficient application and product stability and availability. DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides technical direction and guidance in moving database functionality to cloud environments (including AWS, Azure, etc). Leads teams in the design, installation, maintenance, and performance monitoring of highly complex Database Management Systems (DBMS). Manages teams who are responsible for designing and maintaining Database Systems that meet High Availability and Disaster Recovery requirements. Serves as the lead for all strategic database planning efforts and architectural design. Recommends application design changes and modifications to most effective leverage the use of enterprise databases. Meets with vendors to review new technology products. Negotiates new purchases of database/tools software including contract terms and conditions and pricing. Performs/assigns resources that perform/schedule release of database builds in various production and non-production environments. Responsible for maintaining license compliance for Database Management Software. Provides the highest level of consultative subject matter expertise in the design, creation, implementation and maintenance of applications affecting enterprise databases. Works with systems and business leadership to develop database strategies to support company needs. Coaches manager team on how to best assign individual associates to projects of varying scope. Ensures projects are completed on time and within predefined requirements and budgets. Accountable for team performance within assigned projects. Supervises management staff that performs information security and audit activities under the guidance of the Internal Audit and related compliance departments. Guides database management team on actions to mitigate information security risks. Ensures accurate and appropriate use of data. As appropriate, works directly with applications development management to resolve data conflicts and inappropriate data usage. Serves as the highest level internal resource in resolving the most complex database issues. Trains database management to more effectively resolve issues. Ensures that direct reports and indirect reports perform work as prescribed by policies and procedures in order to achieve productivity, service, quality standards quotas and goals. As appropriate assigns work and resources to subordinates to achieve productivity, service, and quality standards. Administers and executes policies and procedures typically affecting subordinates. Has authority to make exceptions to policy and procedures. Works with staff on developing performance and development goals. Makes recommendations on pay, performance, appraisals, work schedules, discipline and hiring. Responsible for creating and managing the department budget. Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider environment. EDUCATION: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent experience. Master's degree in related systems or business field is strongly desired. OTHER PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum twelve (12) years relevant database administration experience Five (5) years experience leading projects while being accountable for team performance and/or directly managing people. Ability to work on-call as needed, including evenings and weekend.
