Our B.F.A. in Theatre Production and Design major, with concentrations in design and technology, offers the rigorous, highly-individualized training of a conservatory within the enriching foundation of a liberal arts education, designed to develop and strengthen the skills, hone the instincts, and foster the passion necessary for a professional career as a theatre artist. Ithaca College develops theatre artists who not only practice theatre but also use theatre to reflect and shape the society in which we live. Ithaca College and the Department of Theatre Arts seeks greater diversity in our faculty to broaden our academic experience. We value input from multiple viewpoints and perspectives across the college; our goal is to create an academic artistic community that is rich with cultural, social, and intellectual diversity. Teach in the B.F.A. Theatre Production and Design area, at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. Teaching responsibilities may include: introductory courses in theatre production, costume construction, advanced costume construction, special topics courses in advanced costume crafts, as well as mentoring and supervising students in their costume practicum. Collaborate with the 12-member theatre production and design faculty and staff on all production and curricular matters. Faculty participate in the life of the department by interviewing prospective students, advising majors, and serving on appropriate committees in the practice of shared governance. Position/Job Qualifications B.F.A. or M.F.A. in an appropriate field, and significant professional experience in costume/crafts shops is required. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of craft and design, and a successful demonstration of the execution of costumes and costume crafts. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience at the undergraduate level, experience in instructing and monitoring student crews, a strong interest in mentoring young designers and artisans, and will possess skills in cutting, draping, and tailoring, as well as millinery and/or special crafts projects. Must demonstrate an ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures, possess an in-depth knowledge of industry-specific resources – ideally, the New York City area – and have strong organizational and time management skills.
