Overview

DataGen (website: datagen.info), a subsidiary of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is seeking a seasoned Healthcare Informatics Analyst. DataGen offers a variety of health care data analytics services that support individual hospitals, state hospital and health care associations, and multi-state health care systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, DataGen, will lead research and data analysis activities to support product development and consulting projects.  Research and analyze issues of importance to the financial, economic, and operational interests of the health care industry. Key activities include:               

  • Research, develop, and maintain analyses and analytic products around alternative payment models, specifically those focused on risk assumption and value based care

  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of the concepts behind emerging payment reform models such as episodic payment, bundling, and accountable care organizations, and actively seeks information to understand new industry developments

  • Expert in large healthcare data sets and data definitions that are required by DataGen such as Medicare and Commercial claims data

  • Develop analyses to address complex healthcare questions, including researching methodologies, performing analyses, and presenting findings

  • Build relational data files, queries and analyses using SQL and programmatic languages

  • Strong knowledge base of health care financial policies and regulations; health care data; and quality initiatives, including population health, patient-centered care, value-based payments, and quality metrics. Stay abreast of industry news and policy changes

  • Interact on a regular basis with clients to develop analyses, direct client education meetings and product demonstrations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, finance, economics, epidemiology, biostatistics or mathematics. Master’s degree desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be substituted

  • 5+ years’ experience in a position involving the application of techniques of economic analysis, statistics, financial, and/or information analysis in a health-related field

  • Advanced skills in SQL, SAS, R, or other programmatic languages required. Business intelligence analysis a plus.

  • Knowledge of relational database structure and queries required

  • A working knowledge of healthcare claims attributes and technical terminology

  • Strong analytic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong working knowledge of industry coding (DRGs, ICD-9/10, CPT/HCPCS)

  • Excellent interpersonal, (written and verbal) communication skills are required to support working in team environment and with clients

  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills

  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task
