Job Description

The Database and Statistical Software Administrator/Technology Analyst possesses some expertise, may act as a project lead, and performs technical analyses of large-scale systems. The analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, support, and maintenance of automation, computing, and database systems essential to carrying out the responsibilities and daily activities of Division or Board staff. The analyst uses initiative and resourcefulness in solving problems and in developing new procedures.


The Database and Statistical Software Administrator/Technology Analyst in the Automation Research and Computing (ARC) section will have the following:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in a technical or analytical discipline with at least 3 -5 years of related experience.
  2. Extensive experience using version control software, such as Git and Gitlab.
  3. Extensive interest in and knowledge about modern Linux software architecture.
  4. Extensive experience in at least three of the following:
  5. High-performance computing and cluster management tools, such as the SLURM scheduler.
  6. Programming in high-level languages, such as Python, Perl, Ruby on Rails, C, or C++.
  7. Analytical software packages such as R, MATLAB, Stata, SAS, or Eviews.
  8. Time series or relational databases, such as FAME, PostgreSQL, or MySQL; and Big Data technologies, such as Spark, Cassandra, and Hadoop.
  9. Administering Linux and Windows environments.

The successful candidate will join the Database and Analytical Software team, a technical, customer service-oriented group responsible for software and database integration and optimization on the Board’s economic research computing network. The candidate will have excellent communication, customer service, and leadership skills; a strong desire and ability to work toward shared solutions with colleagues at all levels; a proven track record of balancing multiple priorities and technical projects in a challenging, dynamic environment; and experience mentoring junior colleagues.
