Senior Data Engineer

Work with business and technical teams to develop and support data solution technologies in Data & Analytics portfolio. Understands that enabling customers to use their data effectively unlocks significant business value. Data & Analytics team is working as part of ExxonMobil’s global organization and accelerate high-value, actionable insights through the delivery of state-of-the-art, scalable, enterprise data platforms, data and analytics solutions for our global internal ExxonMobil customers. We are looking for people in our growing team to help the business get actionable insights from their data for competitive advantage. This job role focuses on guiding teams in gathering and transforming data to enable presenting it in a meaningful format. Typical activities include work with customer and project leads on requirements gathering, scope definition, data modeling to support Digital activates while working to provide step change improvements in master and foundational data for enhanced analytics.

Job Responsibilities

• Work with ETL / ELT tools (mostly SSIS)
• Design and implement Data Engineering Solutions, including batch and streaming data pipelines on premises
• Design and implement the extraction, processing and storing of data from different sources
• Design conceptual, logical and physical data models for analytics solutions
• Collaborate with project teams, business customers and other partners in requirements gathering, solution design and product delivery
• Understand company and industry best practices, technical architecture, design standards, technology roadmaps and business requirements and ensure compliance with each of these
• Translate customer needs and processes into logical & physical models, data diagrams and automated workflows

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited university in Computer Science or related field of study
• Minimum of 10 years of experience developing, deploying, and supporting data and analytics solutions
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment with software developers and domain experts
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Deep understanding of solution design, data work flows, data integration, data modeling and relational databases
• Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and data sets
• Strong analytic skills related to working with large datasets
• Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
• Design, implement and iterate on application / data solutions quickly to meet customer timelines
• Learn, understand and implement emerging technologies

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Solid knowledge in SQL Server and SSIS (queries and stored procedures)
• Familiarity with data modeling (e.g. Star and Snowflake schemas)
  CI/CD fundamentals (e.g. DevOps, Git)
• Advanced / Fluent in both written and verbal English
• Experience with SQL optimization on SQL Server (indexes, query plan, database load strategies)
• Working experience with Data & Analytics Projects and Cloud Data Pipelines
• Exposure to big data event streaming solutions (e.g. Kafka)
• Exposure to data replication tools (e.g. Qlik replicate)
• Exposure with visualization analytics tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau. SSRS)
