Job Description

Collins Aerospace is currently seeking motivated candidates for a Systems Engineer II position to support airborne platforms and ground-based systems across multiple programs. This opportunity requires individuals who can perform key system lifecycle development activities, including analysis, planning and requirements, system design, integration and systems testing, and verification/validation of mission systems. Candidates should be self-motivated and willing to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a dynamic and growing development team.

The successful candidate will be part of a distributed team composed of professionals from several disciplines and must have the ability to function well, both alone and with others, and have strong interpersonal skills. This position may require occasional travel (up to 10%.). This position does require that candidate has a final US DoD security clearance, or ability to obtain a final security clearance (US Citizenship is required) in order to access classified information.

This position is ONSITE in Richardson, TX. This position may be eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leading and coordinating projects with cross-functional engineering teams, including technical aspects as well as program cost and schedule
  • Responsible for driving cross-discipline trade offs & design decisions working with the Discipline Chief and SMEs
  • Estimating, tracking, and communicating cost, schedule, and risk in support of Mission Engineering development activities
  • Use personal experience and best practices to identify issues, potential problems, and risk

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have an active US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements 
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of tasks and lead technical efforts spanning multiple stakeholders, and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Capable of estimating, tracking, and communicating cost, schedule, and risk
  • Experience in concepts such as CONOPS, system tradeoffs, threat definitions, and system of system assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly build breadth into new technology areas
  • The ability to coordinate several complex engineering activities while balancing priorities and schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to perform with minimal direct supervisory support
  • Experience with project scheduling and strategic planning
  • Experience with communicating to external customers
  • Experience with earned value management
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and application to system development
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB
  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools (CAMEO) for developing architectures and functional analysis
  • Experience with Military Operations Analysis
  • Familiarity with configuration management (GIT, subversion)
  • Ability to understand tactics as described by military experts and to represent their employment (verbally, graphically, and in simulations)
